How Do Black Women Feel About The 2024 General Elections?
Black women share their honest thoughts on the issues, narratives and opinions that truly matter to us
If projections are anything to go by for the general elections happening this Thursday, it’s probable that a landslide victory is coming. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t conversations that need to be had and statements that need to be made.
Over the last year, black women have used Black Ballad to share their honest opinions on our need for more than our current two-party system, what Diane Abbott’s treatment says about the UK’s political system, how global events our shaping our politics & what we can do for our families & communities in the light of our political climate.
We’ve gathered 34 of these stories to document How Black Women Feel About The 2024 General Elections
These stories will not give you a party by party comparison on their response to core issues. There are other platforms for that. However, what these stories will show you is something our major media platforms rarely do: How these issues, narratives and opinions truly manifest themselves in the lives of black women and the people we love.
After all, as Tianna said in Hopeless, Hatred & No Trust: How Black Women Really Feel About July’s General Election:
“Black Brits make up 4% of the electorate. And I know it might sound small, but it’s not – that’s not a small thing. It was a 2% margin for the Brexit vote. We’re a voting bloc, which means that when these politicians are sitting down and they’re strategising how they’re going to get their votes and how they’re going to get people on board, they should be writing a plan just for us.”
We hope the stories below encourage you to make the most of your vote on Thursday - let’s make sure Westminister knows how we feel about their plans.
