Yellowzine: The Self-Funded Art Platform Spotlighting Marginalised Creatives

From the age of 16, Aisha Ayoade started her own online fashion magazine, with the help of her brother and cousin.

For content, they would travel within the West Midlands on weekends, with a camera in one hand and a bold desire to capture the style of the everyday person in mind. They used these images for a lookbook series, describing the outfits in detail and where each person got them from, for their audience of Coventry-based teenagers.

“It didn’t really have much complexity and longevity to it,” Aisha says, “[but] running a magazine was always something I wanted to do. I don’t even know how I had the confidence to be doing that to strangers.”

Now aged 27, she has created an outlet that’s even more enterprising – a cultural art platform and print magazine called Yellowzine (aka Yellow).
