When I decided to write about this topic, I knew that some people would want to give this a miss, while others would be nodding in agreement as you read on.
Like many of you, I have been hooked by this year’s Love Island. I began the show armed and ready to take on anyone who wanted to inflict comments or think pieces that reeked of misogynoir or colourism against our good sis Yewande. No doubt, like most of you reading this who watch the reality show, I felt a sense of distrust on how she would be portrayed and if she would even get a fair crack at love. While I think the show could have let us see more of her personality, overall seeing Yewande on Love Island was in fact a positive experience. We saw a straight talking, wonderfully whip-smart scientist make decisions based off her own gut and not be swayed by others.
