Since the tragic events of 9/11, Islam has been under much scrutiny from politicians and journalists in the West.  Women who subscribe to the religion of Islam are hypervisible in a Western world, because their hijabs are a visible symbol of their religion. To wear a hijab today has become political. The hijab has now become a political football in Western countries such as France, the USA and the UK.
