Technology is ever evolving, but in a patriarchal-led society, the malicious use of technology has become another space for the harmful practice of gender-based violence.
My personal experience of malicious use of technology led me down a long and winding road of isolation, alienation and being villainised in real life; from image-based abuse to compromised devices, account takeovers and negative profiling.
The root of my compromise began in 2018 whilst in a toxic intimate situation, once or twice described as a ‘romance fraud’. The first display of control started off with online monitoring, but this escalated quickly. This was a very vulnerable period of my life, while I was also in and out of hospital due to my physical health.
