How Oversharing Social Media Parents Are Putting Their Children In Harm’s Way

I don’t know about you, but I am endlessly fascinated by people. It’s why I studied psychology at university, why I write books that are character-focused as well as plot-fuelled, and why I regularly fall down rabbit holes of social media beefs as I scrawl through whole threads gobbling up the events, posts and snarkiness that have created the current animosity between two people I don’t even know.

My fascination with people is also why I ended up absolutely terrifying myself when writing my next book Every Smile You Fake, which will be published in February 2024. The information I gained as I researched several parts of the book was shocking and chilling. I came away a changed person.

To create one of Brandee’s, my main characters, backstory, I was brought into the ever-intriguing world of family blogging, or “sharenting” (sharing + parenting) as it’s often now called. This is the realm where – mainly mothers when this trend started – share every second of their parenting journey via posts, photos and videos on various social media platforms and blogs.
