The repatriation of the African and African-Caribbean diaspora back to their motherland is not uncommon.
For many of our grandparents, parents and extended family, retiring back “home” has always been a part of the plan. The reasons for repatriation tend to vary from person to person, with some stating family obligation, financial incentives and lifestyle clashes as reasons.
In more recent times, another trend has emerged and we are seeing increasing numbers of the younger generation choosing to leave the West. I would argue that times are changing yet again. Whilst some diaspora young professionals may be moving abroad, there seems to be a growing cohort who are choosing to buy their first homes abroad while remaining in England – myself included.
