It's Time Black Girls On TikTok Got The Credit They Deserve

I've never really been one for social media challenges but I couldn't resist partaking in the infamous TikTok Savage dance which has taken over my social media feeds.

After all, wherever I went the Savage challenge was there. Whether I was scrolling through Twitter or skimming through Instagram stories, no platform was free from the dance which has been performed by people across the globe from celebrities to, eventually, even me.

It didn’t take me long to master the dance and soon enough, I was in front of my mirror with Megan Thee Stallion seductively rapping ‘I’m a savage: classy, bougie, ratchet’ as I ‘woahed’, clapped and threw it back.

In all the time it took me to learn the dance, it wasn’t until after I did my research that I discovered it was created by Keara Wilson (@keke.janajah) –  a 19-year-old black girl from the United States. As the creator of the most popular dance challenge on TikTok right now, the fact that she was the creator didn’t surprise me, and unfortunately neither did the lack of credit initially given to her.
