How We Can Win: Activist Kimberly Jones On True Economic Equality

At the end of 2021, I was fortunate enough to close out my year by catching up with writer, director and activist Kimberly Jones. In June 2020, soon after the murder of George Floyd, Jones was helping to clean up the streets in her community following protests. A speech she made was recorded by a friend and shared online – this speech would go viral and catapult her into the minds and hearts of people all over the world.

In seven minutes, Jones powerfully uses the now well-known Monopoly analogy to explain a history of racism in the USA, breaking down the economic and social injustices facing Black people and other marginalised communities in the States. In our conversation, we discussed her new book, How We Can Win, navigating life in a pandemic world and of course, race relations in the USA in the wake of the most recent wave of the Black Lives Matter movement.
