Being a Black woman in this country is exhausting. It is angering, heartbreaking, lonely but mostly tiring. This is because from the moment we begin navigating the world – from our time in school right until we enter the world of work, alongside dating, marriage, familial relationships – we are reminded over and over again that we are always expendable.
We are the butt of the joke, we are the scapegoat, and we are the most disrespected group in society. For all the discourse on how to be Black, a lot of time has been wasted in relation to Black women, because it does not matter how you are as a Black woman, even if you present in a ‘palatable’ form, for many, you are always a threat.
