I’m going to be completely transparent, the Black Ballad team suggested in our Monday morning meeting that it would be best if I write a letter for Women’s International Day. One because we all completely forgot that it was in fact Women’s International Day (IWD) tomorrow if you are reading on a Sunday night. Then when we found out this year’s theme Choose to Challenge, we all said, isn’t this something Black Ballad does all the time and what we do as Black women inherently.
As black women our very existence, our very effort to strive for the things we both desire and deserve is us challenging society. The theme of this year’s Women’s International Day isn’t a choice for us. We don’t have a choice in choosing to challenge because it thrust upon us in order to survive and thrive.
