Hello. It has been a while. I think this has probably been the longest break I’ve had since I started writing the Founder’s Letter in 2017. It was genuinely a moment in my life where I needed to stop, pause and gather myself in so many ways. So I’m grateful to be able to slide back into your inbox after so many weeks away. The break also allowed me to be part of the Sunday night bedtime routine, which I often observe through hearing the sounds of laughter, outbursts of kids singing songs from K Pop Demon Hunters (any other parents over the songs?), and the sound of quick little feet running up and down, often all supervised by my husband. In this time away from the letter, I did something. I dyed my hair. Well, that’s a lie. I didn’t dye my hair, my wonderful stylist Michelle at Beauty Creations did. I’d been toying with the idea of going blonde or being a redhead for years, but I guess I was scared to experiment due to the limitations the world has thrust upon black women when it comes to beauty. Dyeing my hair from its 1b colour to this burgundy red has been freeing in so many ways.
