Founder's Letter: What We Can All Learn From How Coco Gauff Advocated For Herself

It feels like a few weeks since I’ve been in your inbox. Spending Sunday evenings writing this newsletter is always the perfect end to the week, because I get to express myself to the people who matter the most to me - black women. I know that when writing down my thoughts, while not everyone may not agree with me week in and week out, my letter can contribute to a conversation that black women are having with one another and that is a privilege. Yet, while it is a privilege I cherish, the last few weeks have been exhausting, so I decided to take some much needed rest to recharge and sleep a little earlier. I often tell black women there are no medals for being tired, so I decided to take my own advice and rest.

For me, rest isn’t just not writing the newsletter. It means taking a break from the world. The news can be depressing and social media can be exhausting, so I decided to take a few days last week to really recharge. But someone sent me the Coco Gauff exchange and instead of feeling emotionally drained by the video - I felt so much pride in seeing this young black girl stand up for herself and call out wrong in the workplace.
