Founder's Letter: What Krept & Konan Have Shown Us About The Complexities Of Black Ownership

I thought about writing this particular newsletter last week, but sometimes, instead of racing to the finish line, we need to sit with our thoughts and ask ourselves: do we need to say this, or say it in that way?

As you’ve seen from the title, I want to discuss—and selfishly make sense of—my own thoughts on what makes a business black-owned. And yes, some of you have probably guessed that my nudge to discuss this comes from Krept and Konan.

Before I get into my thoughts, I want to be clear: this newsletter isn’t about bashing Krept and Konan. It’s about starting or continuing a thoughtful conversation around the broader issue of what we do and don’t perceive as black-owned. Even as a black woman who owns a business, I recognise how important it is to be aware of this conversation that so many of us are having.
