Founder's Letter: This Isn’t How We Should Be Talking About Diane Abbott After 40 Years Of Political Life

Introductions are important. I often find them the most difficult part to write in my newsletters. Once I’ve written the first paragraph (which includes a few re-writes), the rest of my newsletter seems to flow quite naturally. Tonight is different. There doesn’t seem to be a need for an introduction, as I am writing about the absolutely abhorrent remarks and treatment of Diane Abbott. While Black Ballad has covered the vile comments, I don’t think any piece (including what I write) can cover every aspect of disgust when it comes to how Britain has treated the first black female MP and the longest-serving black MP.

Frank Hester, the Tories' biggest donor ever and arguably the person who has the most influence on our Prime Minister, stated that looking at Diane Abbott made him "want to hate all black women" and that the MP "should be shot.
