Founder's Letter: New Year, No New Me

Happy New Year!

And yes, I can say that because this is the first newsletter of 2023 and I am so glad that the new year has arrived. My closest circle know that I could not wait to put 2022 in the bin. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the memes of women pretending to be on the phone to God asking for a soft life package this year and not the trails and tribulations package that they had in 2022 - well, that my friends, is me.

As is the case for many people, with a new year brings new learnings from the past year. New reflections that act as a turbo charger to be new, improved, shiny versions of ourselves. We hear and read the phrase “new year, new me” as if it’s a global headline. There is nothing wrong with new year, new me, but this year it is not a phrase that I’m paying any mind to. The phrase can often feel like there is an old version of ourselves that isn’t good enough and needs a total transformation. As the late great Maya Angelou said: “words are things. You must be careful about the words you use or the words you allow to be used in your house.”
