So while my intention was to have this week off, I guess a certain news story made me think about Black Ballad and our role. Often, Black Ballad tries to be a place that gives black women grace and understanding, but I think any black woman who writes for Black Ballad may find it incredibly difficult to extend that grace and understanding to the new Tory leader, Kemi Badenoch.

From accusations of bullying staff, declaring racism was a thing of the past, calling maternity pay "excessive," and of course leading the charge of online attacks against black women that include Nadine White and Reni Eddo-Lodge — Kemi Badenoch may have made history as the first black political leader of a major political party in Britain, but she will go down as the nastiest and most dangerous political leader we have ever seen in modern British history.
