Founder's Letter: How Often Do We Ask Ourselves The Questions We’d Rather Avoid?

On Tuesday, I hopped on the Hammersmith & City Line, read my book for half the journey, and took a quick nap for several stops until I reached my destination: Shepherd’s Bush Market.

Often when I venture out – like some of you, or perhaps many – there’s someone waiting on the other side of the tube barriers or at the destination. Yet that wasn’t the case this Tuesday evening. I walked down to Ochi, picked up a patty, and again, read a little more of my book. It has been so long since I had a solo date. So long since I sat alone in a restaurant and took stock of my thoughts. I then made my way to the Bush Theatre for the second, and better, half of my solo date – to see Not Your Superwoman.

The play is a two-person production starring Letitia Wright and Golda Rosheuvel (who we already interviewed about the play), written by Emma Dennis-Edwards. I loved every second of those 85 minutes. It was funny, fast-paced, and genuinely made me look at myself – as all great art should do. Plus, Emma gets extra brownie points for weaving in the One on One theme song, even if it was for a heartbreaking reason.
