Founder's Letter: Clara Amfo & Always Toasting To The Success Of Black Women

It's been an interesting week. The mainstream media seems desperate to make us care about the Royals, but quite frankly I could not give a damn. Add in our current PM spewing out a rambling mess that I will not be watching. This year I am intentional about celebration. Celebrating Black Ballad, celebrating myself and celebrating black women. So with that in mind and with what Black Ballad and this newsletter stands for, it is only right we celebrate the one and only Clara Amfo. On Saturday night she hosted the Brit Awards alongside Maya Jama and Roman Kemp and it truly felt like a win for black women.Yes, we saw Raye quite rightly reign supreme at the music festivities and it was wonderful to see Maya Jama, but Clara deserves her flowers because her career is the one that resembles many of us reading this newsletter. Let’s be honest, there is no bigger night in British music than the Brits. So to see Clara hosting it finally felt she had got the presenting job she has been long overdue. As she said “it’s the thing you are desperate to do as a presenter. It’s a life goal.” And as a black woman, it is so beautiful to see another black woman accomplish her dreams so publicly.
