I personally prefer Beyoncé singing the chorus and no doubt my friends that read this newsletter will be saying: “Of course you do.” Society is infatuated with keeping women young and when it feels like we can’t be seen through a youthful lens, it wants to dispose of us.
I’ve said this before, but I have often felt like there is a rush to achieve anything and everything by 30. We always see the women that are celebrated are those who are wrinkle free and under 35. While these women deserve their flowers when they achieve great things, there is a narrative, one that isn’t created by them but wider society that it isn’t what they have accomplished that is the achievement, but the woman’s capacity to achieve her achievement while in her teens and twenties.
