This newsletter is dedicated to Sareeta Domingo who passed away on Friday 12th September 2025.
Some of you may know the name Sareeta Domingo, and some of you may not, but you probably know or have felt the impact of her work. In a world in which black writers still have to fight to tell stories, win publishing contracts, or see themselves in books, Sareeta Domingo was one of the driving forces behind why the books we read have become reflective of the world we know.
The reason you may know Sareeta is because she was Head of Publishing at Jacaranda Books, and she edited Who’s Loving You: Love Stories by Women of Colour— a short story collection that included the words of Dorothy Koomson and Danielle Dash. She edited Kelechi Okafor’s debut Edge of Here and her first novel Awakened. She also edited our very own Jendella Benson’s All That We’ve Got.
She wasn’t just an editor — she was also the author of eight books for children, teenagers and adults, including her latest, Possibility, which follows Anika Lapo, whose confrontation with her own mortality forces her to take a fresh look at her life and desires.
