Editor's Letter: Why I Am Over Age Based Life Milestones

While it's no secret that I will be turning 30 this year, thinking about the new landmark age has left me with some deep thoughts about age. Friends and family alike have asked the two same questions in the last few months: “how are you celebrating?” Or “how do you feel about turning 30?” I’m glad to say, I'm still sorting out the final details of my celebration, however I don’t think I feel anything about turning 30.

I don’t feel anxious. I don’t feel excited. I don’t feel anything. But maybe that is because life events have turned my attention away from the milestone. When I often express my indifference, people often follow it up with: “you have achieved so much. You should be proud,” as if they are trying to reassure me that in entering a new decade, I haven’t done too badly in my previous decade.
