As a Black British mother raising a daughter the same age as Blue Ivy Carter, I watch her journey with a mix of pride and anxiety.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eldest has grown from being one of the world’s most famous babies to confidently taking centre stage alongside her mother on the global Cowboy Carter tour. But while Blue Ivy’s growth is inspiring, her visibility also raises questions many Black mothers like me quietly ask: are we witnessing a young girl’s empowerment, or are we watching another Black girl pushed to grow up too soon?
This conversation is not just about celebrity culture – it’s about how society views and treats Black girls everywhere. As Blue Ivy takes the spotlight, so do our hopes and fears for our own daughters.
