Beyoncé Will Never Be My Motherhood Goals

I feel the need to preface this by saying that I love Beyoncé. I remember standing on top of the cupboards at Sunday school with my friend, swinging our pre-pubescent hips and singing the chorus to ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’ at the top of our lungs; the other day I had a frank conversation with my dad about how I still feel a way that my parents didn’t allow me to go to a Destiny’s Child concert when I was in Year 8; I actually set my alarm for the very first Ivy Park launch and was so eager I ended up putting through a £100 order twice. So, before anyone says anything, I genuinely love Beyoncé.

But it makes my skin itch when people hold her up as “motherhood goals” without acknowledging the fact that Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter’s version of motherhood is not in the same universe as the average woman’s. Which is also how I felt when the meme ‘You have the same amount of hours in the day as Beyoncé’ cropped up on Instagram. Without the assistance of a nanny, a private chef, a personal trainer and a personal assistant as a basic minimum, my days and Beyoncé’s days are not even comparable.
