Black Women In Scotland
If you didn't know that Black Scotland exists, then you are unfortunately behind the times. There are records of black people in Scotland dating back to the 1500s, and Andrew Watson is a black footballer who played for Scotland in the 1800s!
The relationship between black people and Scotland is complicated, as many people of Caribbean heritage can trace their ancestry back to plantations owned by Scottish gentry. But nevertheless, Black Scots are alive and well, whether they are contributing to the political life of the country, preserving the Gaelic tongue or just living their best black lives north of Hadrian's Wall – and you can read about it here on Black Ballad.
