I reverted to Islam in December 2023, so this will be my second Ramadan. Ramadan is a highly spiritual time for Muslimahs; it serves as a time to prioritise faith, discipline and renewal. Ramadan includes fasting; from Fajr morning prayer (around 4am) through to Maghrib evening prayer (around 6pm) with no food or water.
As Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, fasting is pivotal to develop our ‘taqwa’ – it builds our self-control, self-reflection and purifies our souls with spiritual discipline. Ramadan also includes dedicated time for prayer, spending time with loved ones, and charitable acts.
My first Ramadan was a real spiritual eye opener for me. As a super organised woman, I planned how to fast in advance, but during the month, I realised how much deeper Ramadan is beyond the act of fasting. But what I didn’t fully anticipate and prepare for, was how it would impact my workday as an entrepreneur.
