In the last General Election, I voted independent. The candidate was a local black woman, not representing any political party, major or minor. I knew she had no chance of winning, but it was a symbolic act on my part. It was also strategic – I live in a Labour stronghold, so I could afford this negligible act of rebellion. Either way, I was mentally opting out of the circus of national politics and Keir Starmer was not getting a cosign from me!
