One thing we know about the Black Ballad community, is that you love a screening, especially when black women are behind or in front of the camera. So we are here to lighten up your week and announce our latest Black Ballad Member’s perk: a screening of Origin.
Origin is the latest film by Ava DuVernay which she wrote, produced and directed, which stars Oscar nominated actress Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. Origin explores how the caste systems in America, India and even Germany have created structural inequalities that we have to reckon with today. The film is nothing short of bold and necessary and if you Google Origin, that is exactly what the critics are saying too.
So we want to offer BB members a free screening of Ava’s though provoking film with drinks and of course, you’ll get to bring a plus 1 of your choice. There will also be a special exhibition of showcasing the journey of Black Ballad as we celebrate our journey from our origins, all the way through our decade long journey.
After the screening, Black Ballad’s Founder, Tobi Oredein will be chairing a special Q&A to discuss the film’s themes and of course, you the audience will be able to ask questions and discuss the nuanced topics that the film addresses.
