Samira Mighty On Doing The Unexpected As A Music Artist & Success After Love Island

Most of us know Samira Mighty from season four of Love Island. She was the first Black female contestant to land in the villa. Her time on the show often sparked debates about the portrayal of Black women on dating reality shows. As Love Island moves to two seasons a year, these conversations are still very much prominent.

Currently, Samira is on a mission to cement her place in the music industry. Inspired by the likes of Rihanna, Tinashe and Britney, Samira pairs sultry vocals with intense dance beats. Focused on the pop genre, Samira describes her music as “OTT and danceable”.

Samira made her first appearance in the music industry last year with a cover of Shanice’s 90s hit ‘I Love Your Smile’ which reached Top 5 on the UK Club Chart.

Samira spoke to Black Ballad about her debut solo single ‘Like This Like That’, her experience on Love Island as a Black woman and her passion to succeed in a very white-dominated music genre.
