For a long time, it felt like the lone voice representing diversity in British literature for children and teens was Malorie Blackman. Thankfully, we have made some serious headway since then, but her contributions to many of our childhoods are cherished memories.

I remember watching the adaption of her novel Pig-Heart Boy on CBBC, and seeing a black child take centre stage during prime time (those precious hours between the end of school and the start of Neighbours) is a memory that has stuck fast.

After writing over 70 books for young children and teenagers, gifting us unforgettable characters like Sephy and Callum (from the Noughts and Crosses series), Cameron (Pig-Heart Boy), Dante (Boys Don’t Cry), Vicky (Hacker) and so many more, Malorie has decided to turn her pen to her own life, with the release of her memoir, Just Sayin’.
