The UK is currently undergoing a housing crisis, predicted to be at the worst it has ever been, with very few now able to afford to buy a home. UK housing costs hit a record high in 2025, reaching £226 billion, according to the latest research by the property firm, Savills.
Data from the English Housing Survey found that Black communities in the UK are currently experiencing some of the highest rates of downward housing mobility. Compared to other races, Black communities are far less likely to be homeowners due to encountering inequalities when securing mortgage financing and amassing housing wealth, which has greatly contributed to the racial wealth gap.
