I’m a firm believer that your job doesn’t need to feed you in all ways and it’s okay to get fulfilment elsewhere too. In the same vein, your passion can still remain your passion without becoming your primary source of income.
But work can oftentimes take up the majority of our capacity and energy, leaving us not wanting or feeling able to do much else. I see and relate to the many memes that lament the struggle of trying to juggle all the different facets of life. How does one go to work, rest, clean, cook, go to the gym, maintain friendships and relationships, look good, sleep well and still have time to nurture other parts of their interests beyond work?
Work life balance, in reality, often looks like seasons where you are focusing more on work and then other seasons where you are focusing more on other parts of life. The pendulum swings back and forth so that there is (hopefully) an overall sense of balance versus it looking like a perfect balance between the two at all times. And when it comes to those who create and run things alongside their work, we always tend to look at it through the lens of side hustles and second streams of income.
