For the past couple of months, social media has, for the most part, painted a bleak picture of modern dating. Scroll through TikTok, or any other social media platform, long enough and you’ll be convinced that dating is in shambles, that no one wants commitment anymore, that meaningful relationships are increasingly rare, and that more people, especially Gen Z, are opting out of dating and marriage altogether. Love, as we once knew it, is dying – well, dying according to people online.

But a recent report published in March by the dating app BLK suggests something very different is happening among Black singles. Based on responses from nearly 2,000 people across the Black British diaspora, the data revealed that far from abandoning relationships, many Black singles are moving towards them with greater intention.
