One thing I’ve wanted to achieve this year is to have new experiences. While I did ballet as a kid, I’ve never done it as an adult. So when Pointe Black Founding Director and Principal Ruth Essel reached out about having an adult ballet class for the Black Ballad community - I of course said yes.

Pointe Black is a ballet school for people of Black heritage. Ruth is on a mission to decolonise the ballet industry one plié at a time. Every Saturday and Sunday, Miss Ruth as she is affectionately known by her students, teaches ballet to black girls starting from the age of 18 months. Pointe Black is more than a dance school, it has become a safe haven for black girls and women alike to embrace their full selves through dance.

So we thought a ballet session for some of the Black Ballad community would be the perfect summer event to get us moving and embracing our bodies exactly how they are.

The Pointe Black x Black Ballad class is for everyone - so you are welcome if you have never done ballet before, dance another medium or even if you have ballet experience. The most important thing is that black women have fun and embrace their full selves.

This event is available for anyone to attend, but as usual, Black Ballad Members get discounted tickets.
