African Mums Are Taking Over Our Social Media Feeds – And It’s About Time!

A concept that I would have never imagined possible ten years ago is now our reality. Social media has completely shifted the way we all think and view the world. A 14-year-old child and 75-year-old pensioner can now co-exist in the same space, with platforms like TikTok or Instagram serving as a place of refuge to offload, discover and build community.

In recent months, I started to notice a pattern whenever scrolling on any social platform. I was seeing older creators who have retired from their previous careers and decided to try something new, now putting themselves out there for the purposes of sharing their life lessons. I found myself listening closely, as each one of them had a different story to tell. Aside from their age being the common factor, they were also all Caucasian. I didn’t think much of it until a few weeks ago, when I realised that there’s in fact a huge gap in the market. We rarely see older women who also look like us creating content in such capacity.
