Writing My Second Book Took A Serious Toll On My Wellbeing

With a grunt, I slam my laptop shut and tilt my head towards the ceiling. A single tear rolls down my cheek.

I can’t do this.

It was the summer of 2022, and I was trying and failing to write my second book. My debut, Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? had been out for a few months and, in addition to being a bestseller and receiving glowing reviews, it was popular. Even my local taxi driver had heard of it.

The pressure was on.

Yinka had set the bar.

My goal: write something better.

The trouble was I wasn’t passionate about the story I was currently writing. Now on my fourth idea, I was thinking about scrapping it altogether. The plot was boring and my writing was eye-achingly bad. Yes, it was a first draft, but still, I was convinced that the story would never be good enough.
