Laura didn’t think much would happen after she uploaded the video. Looking back, she joked that she would have put a bit more effort into her appearance if she knew the video was going to go viral.

But the short TikTok found its place in the algorithm of a growing group of women who were just as desperate to be part of a Black, non-religious community, and snowballed into something bigger than she could have ever imagined.
