A few years ago a collection of stories highlighting the highs and lows of dating in Lagos, from Yoruba demons to stingy men, started blowing up on Twitter (now known as X). A lot of Nigerian women related to these stories and it echoed across social media; the book was everywhere from Bookstagram pictures to pirated PDFs.
Damilare Kuku was responsible for all this noise, and her work as a creative and multipotentialite was put in the limelight. Her background as an actor, producer, radio presenter, director and writer shows her expertise as a creative and it was only right that her first book was a terrific success.
Topping the The Rovingheights Bestseller List: Presented with Open Country Mag – the first-ever formal bestseller list in Nigerian literature – it sold about 2,204 copies which was over triple that of the number two book, Bolu Babalola’s Honey and Spice. This was recorded at Rovingheights, the country’s biggest bookstore.
