Sudan Is Facing The World’s Deadliest Famine & A Brutal War – This Is Why

So you’re a socially conscious global citizen and you want to know more about Sudan but haven’t known where to start or what resources to trust. You know something is happening in Sudan, but something is also happening in Palestine, Congo, Ukraine, Myanmar, Yemen, Ethiopia, and so many more places. Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place. I’m going to tell you everything you need to know about Sudan and the current war.

The US Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello acknowledges that there may have been as many as 150,000 deaths since the war erupted in April 2023 in Sudan. The numbers of those who have been forced to flee from their homes in Sudan is approaching 10 million. That’s equivalent to the entire population – every single person – in Portugal or Greece. Sudan has the largest displacement crisis in the world according to the United Nations. This war has affected every single Sudanese person in Sudan as well as in the diaspora.

Sudan is located in north east Africa and borders South Sudan, Egypt, Chad, the Central African Republic, Eritrea, Ethiopia and the Red Sea. Before Sudan was split into Sudan and South Sudan in 2011, Sudan was the largest country in both Africa and the Arab league. Sudan means ‘land of the Black people’ in Arabic, the official language of Sudan. This creates a very unique Afro-Arab identity that puts Sudan apart from every single other Arab and African country.
