Germany Wants International Talent, But What Is It Like For Black Women There?

I moved to Frankfurt, Germany in August 2016. I didn’t know how long I wanted to stay, but I’m still here nearly a decade later and I love it. Germany is in need of skilled foreign workers, so there’s no better time to shed light on my life in Frankfurt as a Black British woman and why Germany is in need of an international workforce. In Germany, there has been a long-term increase in life expectancy and decrease in birth rates, as well as more students going into further education. This means that people are entering the workforce at a slower rate than before.

The demographic change means that the decline in skilled workers won’t be balanced out by the forecast rate of immigrant workers. Data shows that if Germany does not embrace immigrant workers, the amount of people of working age (29 - 64), will decline by one third, or up to 60 million people.
