As cliché as it sounds, the new year does provide the perfect opportunity for reinvention. You may have attempted changes throughout the year already, still, something about everyone collectively carving out time to try something new gives you a much-needed kick up the butt that I approve of.
What I don’t approve of, however, is the idea that this new you must be accompanied by a brand new wardrobe. I get it, the sales are sales-ing, the discount codes are flying, and then there’s that niggling voice that questions how you could possibly become a new you in last year’s clothes (even though last year was a mere twenty-four hours ago)?
The danger of resolution shopping is that, in the moment, it can feel super intentional when it’s anything but. And then, in six months, when a sea of polyester muffles your screams about having nothing to wear, you’ll ask yourself, “What the hell happened to that new wardrobe?”
