This month, some of the most exciting up and coming fashion designers in the world will present their autumn/winter 2025 collections at London Fashion Week. Among them are Abigail Ajobi and Tolu Coker.
These Black women are imagining new creative pathways informed by the diasporic nature of their upbringings. Their designs incorporate various cultural elements and sartorial codes to create something new, exemplifying how people and cultures fuse to create delightful novel ways of dressing.
They are also at the forefront of sustainable practices in the industry, creating garments from deadstock fabrics, working with artisans, and repurposing their offcuts to create accessories. This social awareness extends to the brands’ practice, collaborating with charities like Choose Love, Sistah Space and Black Minds Matter.
These designers resist insularity and look to the outside world to confront social and political struggles through their art.
