On an early Thursday morning, the Bush Theatre’s rehearsal studio was filled with the sound of Vanessa Bling’s ‘One Man’, playing from a loud speaker. The studio has a welcoming atmosphere, immersing you into an exclusive first-look of the play. With the Guyanese flag on the wall, the energy in the room is nothing short of infectious. Not Your Superwoman – already sold out for every single performance – makes its world premiere at the Bush Theatre.
The full creative force behind Not Your Superwoman were joyfully dancing and singing along to One Man. In a few minutes later, they would instantly come into their characters as ‘Joyce’ and ‘Erica’. It was the ideal prelude to a rehearsal where issues of intergenerational trauma, mother-daughter relationships and healing would soon take place.
