After experiencing the phenomenon that was Marvel’s Black Panther, the imagery of afrofuturism has become a hot topic for everybody. The importance and future of afrofuturism in films and the need for more intersectional visions including races, genders, sexualities, religions and cultures are becoming more of a need, than a want in Hollywood, especially in big budgeted films.

The release of Black Panther brought the imagery of afrofuturism into mainstream media introducing audiences and demographics everywhere to new worlds. It’s the highest grossing afro futuristic artwork to come to light in years, with the film making cultural statements through its use of graphic expression and the spoken native language ‘Xhosa’, to the costume designs with secret details of African culture and black imagery featured in it.
