I left screen 13 of my local Cineworld with a smile on my face and joy in my heart; Girls Trip did that. I found myself genuinely crying with laughter at one scene and almost getting on my knees to thank the Lord for Kofi Siriboe after watching another. I sang along to Mariah Carey, rapped with Mase and Diddy. I happily shouted with no shame, “AYYY” when everyone's favourite, Dina, told her girls “We’re about to Set It Off”, then swiftly left Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith in the shot alone, staring at each other as if to say “let's do this” (if you know, you know).
The film follows a group of best friends (played by Jada Pinkett-Smith, Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Tiffany Haddish) known as the ‘Flossy Posse’ from their college days, reunite after five years for a business turned pleasure weekend away in New Orleans for the Essence Festival. It's the flirty, dirty, funny flick I didn't realise I needed so badly but I'm glad I got anyway.
