Violence against women and girls has been called a national emergency. According to the study by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and College of Policing, the number of recorded crimes involving violence against women and girls has surged by almost 40% in England and Wales in recent years.
In the King’s Speech, the government outlined plans to halve violence against women in the next decade, with plans for ‘better policing’ being outlined in the Labour manifesto. There are also plans for a new Crime and Policing Bill to be outlined.
