Third Sector Workers Are The Unsung Heroes Behind Immigration

As charities criticise the government, particularly Priti Patel’s involvement, and its lack of action concerning hostile immigration policies and poor engagement with civil society, support workers' roles have intensified drastically compared to the funding and other resources available to provide for those in need - I should know.

Just last year, three months after graduating, I was blessed enough to find a job in the Third Sector (voluntary/charitable organisations) that seemed to be the perfect fit: modern-day slavery and anti-trafficking coordinator.

Within a few days of landing the job, I understood that my 9 to 5 would go way beyond a desk job. The fallacy that all you do in an office is indulge in cake-tasting and sipping coffee every day as you gossip and dwell about life, was completely unmatched. My role meant having a hefty amount of people's lives right in the palm of my hand.
