Of course I felt out of place getting on the train to Hackney Wick in an all-black ‘kink-themed’ outfit, with my friend by my side holding a whip in one hand. But the buzzing excitement of heading to Pxssy Palace for the first time for their ‘Kink’ night in December took over any major feelings of self-consciousness.
I’m new-ish to queer spaces, having only identified as bisexual a couple years ago. I’m still finding my place in the community and one way I enjoy cementing that place is by surrounding myself with queer womxn like myself. Last year, I finally decided to attend the QTIPOC (queer, trans, intersex people of colour) club night that is aptly named Pxssy Palace.
As I approached the event and queued up alongside a range of people in their interpretations of ‘kink’ outfits, I started to feel more comfortable. And then when my friend and I entered the club to the sounds of Amaarae’s ‘Sad Gurlz Love Money’, a stage full of people walking a catwalk while voguing and the host chanting: “Pxssy is where I wanna be, Palace is where I wanna be!” through their microphone… I knew it would be a fun night.
