Those who migrated from Africa to the UK in the 70s and 80s did so on the premise that one day they would return home.

However, the nostalgia for Nigeria that my mother and her friends – my ‘aunties’ – have, does not match the reality of how things are now, and is far removed from what they hope to expect.

So often, I hear the moans and desires of my aunts as they discuss their plans to retire in Nigeria. Although they thoroughly exercise their Yoruba on the 236 bus as if they were in Lagos State, it is a clear reminder that there is no place like home.
