Jendella's Letter: Politics Won’t Save Us, But Community Can

After 14 years of cruel policies, disappearing living standards and farcical leadership contests, many are predicting that the Conservatives will lose the stranglehold they’ve had on British politics since 2010.

I should be ecstatic over this prospect, but I’m not. Looking around at the political landscape, alternative options do not inspire excitement.

Even as I watch more Lib Dem signs appear in front of houses in my Labour stronghold, I feel like the sins of the cursed ConDem coalition government will follow them for a while yet. The Greens are the only one of the smaller parties that feel like they could actually make headway in terms of representation in Parliament, but have their own issues around race to deal with. Then there are the countless other independent candidates and parties that often feel like a window dressing in a political system that really only serves a two-party race.
